Part II –

Two months have passed now, and I am finally able to visit the site after all the construction and wiring was complete. What I found was essentially nothing from our original scope of work had been done correctly.
The most obvious problem was that this experienced sub-contractor bound and ran the entire loom of CAT6 Ethernet wires along the outside of the main power feed for the building. This feed ran approximately 75’ along the power line. This is a huge issue and I am surprised that they have any network functionality what-so-ever.  Secondly, the sub-contractor only ran 1 line per network wall plate. We had quoted 4. There go any expansion plans. We now STILL must come in and add cables should we go VoIP or add personal printers to each office.

Lastly, the wireless access point and network storage drive on the same network was plugged into the wrong side of the Firewall which explains why the local backups failed and the wireless was only allowing users Internet access.

When I finally was able to sit with my client and talk about the events of the last couple months just to catch up. They informed me that really the only complaint appeared to be slowness and freezing up when trying to access network resources, print documents, or surf the web. Basically, everything that I felt they should have been experiencing due to this cabling nightmare was happening. They just had been dealing with it and were waiting for me to come out and make it all better.

We’re scheduled to come out and rewire the offices next week…
